What is a Tourniquet

A tourniquet is a taut fabric band that compresses the bleeding artery in an attempt to stop the flow of blood.

It is refined from medical polymer material natural rubber or special rubber, long and flat type with strong stretch.

It is suitable for medical institutions in the routine treatment and rescue of transfusion, blood draw, blood transfusion, stop bleeding; or limb bleeding, field snake and insect bite bleeding when the emergency hemostasis.

Tourniquet hemostasis is a simple and effective method to stop bleeding when the extremities are bleeding heavily, and it achieves the purpose of hemostasis by compressing the blood vessels to block the blood flow. However, if used improperly or for too long, the tourniquet can cause ischemia and necrosis of the distal limb, resulting in disability, for this reason, only when the bleeding is violent and cannot be stopped by other methods can a tourniquet be applied.

There are four different types of tourniquets: surgical tourniquets, emergency tourniquets (includes military tourniquet), rehabilitation tourniquets and a tourniquet is used by the phlebotomist to assess and determine the location of a suitable vein for venipuncture.

For example, silicone ring tourniquets, or elastic loop tourniquets, are self-contained mechanical devices which do not require any electricity, wires or tubes. The tourniquet comes in many sizes.

To determine the correct size, the patient's limb circumference at the desired occlusion location should be measured, and their blood pressure to determine the best model. Once the correct model is selected, typically two sterile medical personnel will be needed to apply the device. Unlike with the pneumatic tourniquet, the silicone loop tourniquet should be applied after the drapes have been placed on the patient.

The military tourniquet is wrapped around the injured limb and then held in place with a securing stick so that the cloth can be tightly twisted and held in place. Once taut, the tourniquet should not be loosened until it is completely removed. The tourniquet should remain in place until the bleeding stops, otherwise serious injury to the limb may occur.
